Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Feldcamp submitted his resignation on Friday evening, after internal controversy over the imposition of possible sanctions on Israel.
“I see that I am not in a position that authorizes me to take additional measures of importance to pressure Israel.” The minister said Thursday about his desire to take additional measures against Israel, after I ranked the Netherlands last July the two Israeli ministers, Inttar bin Ghafir and Bamliel Smotrich, “two unwanted people.” However, his proposals faced opposition in the cabinet meetings, which prompted him to resign, considering that he no longer has “sufficient confidence in his ability to continue as foreign minister.” The resignation came while the Netherlands signed with 20 other European countries a joint statement describing Israel’s approval of a major settlement project in the West Bank, as “unacceptable and contrary to international law.”
