The Dutch Football Association officially announced that it had reached an agreement with Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez to take over the technical leadership of the first team, with a contract extending until the end of the 2028 World Cup, succeeding coach Ronald Koeman.
The selection of Xavi comes after intense negotiating sessions during which the Dutch Federation succeeded in convincing the former Barcelona legend of his sporting project to develop “windmills” and rely on young elements to rebuild the offensive identity of Dutch football in the upcoming continental and international competitions.
Xavi expressed his great happiness with this step, stressing that coaching a team the size of the Netherlands represents an exceptional challenge in his coaching career, and pledged to work immediately to prepare the squad to compete in the European qualifiers for major tournaments.
