A sharp international attraction on the extension of UNIFIL and Washington calls for the end of its work within 6 months

On the twenty -fifth of this month, members of the UN Security Council will vote on the draft resolution extending for UNIFIL, that is, six days before the end of its mandate.
The Security Council began the day before yesterday to discuss a decision of a decision submitted by France to extend the mandate of the UNICEF forces for an additional year, in light of a sharp conflict with the United States, which officially calls for the announcement of ending the mission of the international forces in preparation for its withdrawal in just six months.

The Americans justify their position rejecting the extension by saying that “the alternative to the international forces can be the joint supervision committee that was formed to monitor the ceasefire, and operate according to a mechanism based on the existence of two military teams, one in Lebanon and the other in Israel, who take over coordination between them.”
On the other hand, diplomatic sources confirmed that “Lebanon informs from China and Russia their rejection of any amendment to UNIFEL or put them under Chapter Seven”, but at the same time they made it clear that “they will not stand against what is offered to end the UNICEF mission in Lebanon”, with the two sides acknowledging that “Washington insists on making the decision now that its implementation begins after six months.”
As for the French position, it is in confirmation that “the Lebanese army needs at least three years to be able to completely control,” suggesting that “UNIFL is extended for an additional three years before its withdrawal from Lebanon.” Paris shows special attention to the file, while intensifying its group operating within the international forces in the south in an attempt to persuade the Americans to be able to achieve tangible results, and in an effort to gain the confidence of the Elado. While President Aoun emphasized the importance of the existing cooperation between the army and UNIFIL, he noted in particular the relations between the international forces and the people of the southern towns and villages who receive all health, social and educational attention from the forces participating in the “UNIFIL”. Parallel, Israeli media revealed that Foreign Minister Gideon Saar sent an official message to his American counterpart Marco Rubio, asking him to stop the work of the “UNIFIL forces” in the south Lebanon. Saar told Rubio in his message that “UNIFIL” was supposed to be temporary from the beginning, and it failed in its basic mission to prevent the position of “Hezbollah” south of the Litani River.
