The group confirmed that the sector unanimously rejects the law in its current form approved by the House of Representatives, considering that it harms the rights of fishermen and their livelihood.
He explained that an emergency meeting that included unions, cooperatives, and independent fishermen from Naqoura to Al-Arida in the port of Dbayeh concluded with a complete rejection of the law, considering that its provisions include ambiguous articles that serve the interests of companies and monopolists at the expense of artisanal marine fishing.
The statement indicated that the fishermen submitted their recommendations and observations to the representatives, and intend to communicate with them directly to reconsider the law, calling for the approval of the observations of specialists and the protection of the rights of workers in the fishing sector.
The group stressed that fishermen will continue to take all legitimate steps to defend their rights and reject any law that they believe enshrines the privatization of marine resources, stressing that they will not accept this legislation in its current form.
