With the exacerbation of the water interruption in a number of Lebanese regions, the phenomenon of buying household water from tanks has emerged in an unprecedented way, but the worst, according to the complaints of the people, is the transformation of the distribution into a preferential mechanism based on the ability to pay: whoever pays more gets first, in a practice that the population describes as unjustified and discriminatory.

Citizens refer to the outbreak of “urgency commissions” that some distributors demand for a quick delivery outside the role, in addition to large differences in prices between the neighborhoods. Waiting lists are broken by simply width of additional amounts, which turned water into a commodity managed by the auction logic.
Municipal and civil sources warn through “Lebanon 24” that this behavior doubles the burdens on low -income families, especially with the heat waves and the increase in the need for home consumption. Fears of some families are also raised to sources that are not guaranteed by the specifications due to the cost, in order to raise the health risks. Local activities demand the Ministry of Energy, Water and Municipalities to announce a clear reference pricing for tanks, and publish them to the public. In addition to monitoring the commitment to roles and preventing “graphics”, as well as intensifying the disclosure of the sources of mobilization, licensing and adhering to the standards.
