Internet speeds in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continued to achieve advanced levels, supported by the development of digital infrastructure, as the “Saudi Internet 2025” report in its fifth edition, issued by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, revealed an increase in the average mobile Internet download speed to 216 megabits per second compared to 203 megabits per second in the previous year, ranking Saudi Arabia among the top five countries in the G20 in this indicator.
The report indicated that the average consumption of mobile Internet data per capita reached 53 gigabytes per month, which is equivalent to about three times the global average, in an indicator that reflects the continuous growth in the use of digital services and their applications, indicating that the average download speed via the fifth generation (5G) network reached 320 megabytes per second, while the average response time for the mobile Internet recorded 24 milliseconds.
In the fixed Internet sector, the average download speed increased to 151 Mbps, compared to 120.4 Mbps in the previous year, while the average upload speed reached 73 Mbps, and the average response time recorded 8 milliseconds, according to an analysis of Ookla data.
The report indicated that the total Internet data traffic in Saudi Arabia amounted to 69 million terabytes, distributed 56% for local data traffic and 44% for international data traffic, while the mobile and fixed Internet networks shared the total data traffic equally at a rate of 50% for each.
The Riyadh region topped the volume of Internet data traffic with a rate of 30.6%, followed by the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region with a rate of 20.5%, and then the Eastern Region with a rate of 16.8%.
The report drew attention to the fact that the rate of activation of the sixth version of the Internet Protocol (IPv6) among users reached 67%, while the number of Saudi networks on the Internet (ASN) reached about 200 networks, which reflects the development of digital infrastructure and its ability to keep pace with the rapid growth in digital services.
This comes in conjunction with Saudi Arabia ranking first in the world in the 2026 ICT Development Index issued by the International Telecommunication Union, ahead of 159 global economies, reflecting the efficiency of the digital infrastructure and its readiness to support digital transformation and sustainable growth.
