“Lebanon Debate”
A military source denied to “Lebanon Debate” the validity of the information circulating about any incursion by the Israeli army into the western town of Zawtar, stressing that the news that was circulated in this context was “untrue.”
The source explained that the field situation inside the town did not witness any progress or entry of Israeli forces, stressing the need to be precise in conveying information and not to be drawn into unreliable news, especially in light of the sensitivity of the security conditions taking place in the southern region.
This denial comes after social media platforms and accounts circulated information and pictures claiming that there was an Israeli movement inside Zawtar al-Gharbiya, which sparked a state of anxiety among the residents, coinciding with the start of the gradual return to the town and the inspection of damaged homes and property.
Zawtar al-Gharbiyya is one of the towns that witnessed widespread destruction and major damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands during the recent period, while the Lebanese army entered it as part of a field plan aimed at stabilizing the spread and ensuring the gradual and safe return of the population.
Movement within parts of the town is still subject to strict security measures, in light of the continuing risks associated with unexploded ordnance and suspicious objects, in addition to the existing tension near the border areas.
The military authorities constantly stress the importance of obtaining information from official sources, to avoid causing confusion or exposing civilians to danger, especially since any inaccurate news about field movements may directly reflect on the movement of people and their plans to return to their homes.
