This morning, the Council of Ministers held an extraordinary session headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, devoted to discussing the repercussions of Decree No. 3214 regarding imposing customs duties on some goods, in the presence of a number of ministers and the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Judge Mahmoud Makiya.

Following the session, Information Minister Paul Morcos announced that the Council of Ministers first stressed the necessity of implementing Law No. 38 issued on January 5, 2026, as a reform step to consolidate regulatory and financial governance in the management of the waste sector, which is based on the principle of “the polluter pays,” allowing the state to cover the cost of waste treatment instead of local authorities.

He explained that Decree No. 3214 issued on June 15, 2026 came to implement this trend, by amending the schedule related to customs duties on some imported products.

Morcos added that, given the current living and economic conditions and the repercussions resulting from the war, the Council of Ministers decided, after deliberation, **to suspend the work of Decree No. 3214**, until the table of customs rates attached to it is re-examined.
