In a move that reflects the continued dependence of millions of users on the old system and their reluctance to move to Windows 11, Microsoft unannounced extended the period of extended security updates for the Windows 10 operating system until October 12, 2027.

Microsoft has amended the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates Program page to indicate that users will be able to benefit from security coverage until October 2027, that is, for an additional period beyond the date previously expected for individual users.

The company noted that devices already registered in the program will continue to receive updates automatically without the need to take any additional measures.

This decision comes at a time when a large number of computer users are still clinging to Windows 10, despite the end of official support for the system in October 2025.

Observers believe that the strict operating requirements imposed by Microsoft on Windows 11, such as the requirement of the TPM 2.0 security chip and specific hardware specifications, have led many users to postpone upgrading or keep their current devices.
