Haaretz newspaper quoted an Israeli source as saying that the Israeli delegation will present during the Washington negotiations a plan for a gradual withdrawal from parts of southern Lebanon, in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army in those areas.
According to the same source, Tel Aviv is interested in finding solutions in the Washington negotiations that would distance Iranian interference from developments in Lebanon.
In this context, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar considered that the Israel-Lebanon talks in Washington were important, noting that disarming Hezbollah was in what he described as a mutual interest.
These positions come in light of anticipation of the course of Washington’s negotiations and the arrangements that may lead to them related to the south, amid a Lebanese focus on the priority of restoring full sovereignty and the deployment of the Lebanese army, in exchange for Israel’s insistence on linking any understandings to broader security and political files.
