According to the “PhoneArena” website, a survey among Android users showed that 89.39% of them use the “Google Messages” application instead of other messaging applications.
This result came at a time when the application continues to obtain new features, including the “Tap to draft” feature, which allows the user to modify one of the suggested quick responses before sending it. Instead of clicking on the Smart Reply to send it immediately, the text is first placed in the writing box, giving the user the opportunity to review or modify it.
This feature is especially useful for those who rely on Smart Replies, but it reduces the risk of sending an inappropriate or incomplete response with just a quick touch.
In the same survey, about 6% of participants said that they use third-party messaging applications, whether pre-installed on some phones or downloaded from the Google Play Store. As for messaging applications provided by telecommunications companies, they received less than 5% of the votes.
The report finds that this dominance is largely logical. The “Google Messages” application comes installed and well integrated into most Android phones, which makes it the natural choice for many users who do not even think about looking for an alternative.
The application’s connection to Google services gives it an additional advantage, whether in terms of synchronization between devices, ease of moving from one phone to another, or integration with modern features such as smart responses and artificial intelligence services.
The report indicates that users are also attracted to the idea of having everything within one system. Just as many people prefer to log in to websites with a Google account instead of creating a new account, Android users find comfort in keeping messages within the same Google environment.
As features like “Tap to draft” continue to be added, it seems that “Google Messages” is not content with being the default app on Android, but rather working to consolidate its position as an option that is difficult for most users to abandon.
