Finance Minister Yassin Jaber considered that the Israeli attacks that targeted the city of Nabatieh and its region, and led to the destruction of a large number of buildings and infrastructure, leading to the destruction of the Bank of Lebanon branch in Nabatieh, fall within the context of a dangerous escalation that affects people, quarantine, and Lebanese state institutions.
Jaber said, in a statement, that nothing is more precious than the lives of civilians who are killed daily as a result of Israeli attacks, stressing that all pretexts fail when targeting the elderly and destroying and bulldozing homes.
He pointed out that what makes the scene more dangerous is the continuation of these attacks at a time when Lebanon is supposed to have entered the ceasefire phase, wondering what would have happened if this agreement had not been in place.
He added that the continuation of systematic destruction operations, despite the Lebanese state’s involvement in direct negotiations under American sponsorship, and their extension from targeting the former Nabatieh Saray to targeting members of the security services and the Lebanese army, all the way to the destruction of the Bank of Lebanon branch in the city, constitutes a direct message to the Lebanese state.
Jaber believed that this message can only be interpreted with two possible goals: either to increase the pressure on the Lebanese negotiator on the eve of the fourth round of negotiations in Washington with the aim of establishing continued control over the areas into which Israel has penetrated, or to torpedo the entire negotiating process and impose new facts by force.
The Minister of Finance called on the state sponsoring the agreement to intervene decisively and oblige Israel to an immediate ceasefire and ensure its implementation, warning that Lebanon may be facing a new aggressive path that is not limited to displacing the people of the south, but extends to undermining state institutions and exposing its facilities and institutions to risks, threatening its ability to carry out its duties at this sensitive stage.
