Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa denied the validity of the reports circulating regarding any Syrian intervention or entry into Lebanon, stressing that what is rumored in this context is baseless.
Al-Sharaa’s position came during his reception of a delegation of notables and notables from the Damascus countryside, where he touched on a number of regional files, most notably relations with Lebanon and current developments on the Lebanese scene.
Al-Sharaa confirmed that talk about Syria’s entry into Lebanon is “untrue,” stressing that these allegations do not reflect reality and are not based on any actual data.
Regarding the issue of demarcating the borders between the two countries, he explained that this issue is not a priority at the present time, pointing out that Lebanon is facing exceptional circumstances and multiple crises that require focusing on more urgent files.
The Syrian President indicated that Lebanon is witnessing a massive internal displacement crisis as a result of security and military developments, explaining that the number of displaced people inside Lebanese territory is estimated at about 1.5 million people.
Al-Sharaa’s statements come in light of the recent increase in talk about files related to Lebanese-Syrian relations, especially those related to the land borders between the two countries, amid repeated political calls to address the outstanding issues and organize bilateral relations within official frameworks.
These positions also coincide with the security and humanitarian challenges facing Lebanon as a result of the ongoing war, the accompanying waves of massive internal displacement and additional pressure on infrastructure and basic services in a number of regions.
