The Free Patriotic Movement welcomed the decision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to lift the ban on Lebanese exports to it, considering that the step carries important economic and political implications at this stage, and constitutes direct support for Lebanon and its economy in light of the difficult circumstances it is going through.
The movement’s position comes in the context of widespread Lebanese welcome for the reopening of the Saudi market to Lebanese exports, after years of decline in the export movement, especially in the agricultural sector. The Ministry of Agriculture considered that the decision constitutes a turning point for launching the path of agricultural recovery and restoring Lebanon’s presence in the Gulf markets, after the closure over the past years had a negative impact on farmers, producers, and packaging, marketing and export chains.
In a statement, the Free Patriotic Movement appreciated the Saudi move, noting that it would consolidate positive and good relations between Lebanon and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and support Lebanon and its economy in light of the repercussions of the war and the ordeal it is going through.
The movement considered that the decision constitutes a new confirmation of the depth of the connection between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, and an impetus for greater coordination and integration between Arab countries, leading to their renaissance and supporting their cohesion and stability.
This step is of particular importance given the role that the Saudi market played as one of the most prominent foreign destinations for Lebanese products, especially agricultural products, as its closure had caused a significant decline in the volume of exports to the Gulf countries, before the appeal decision opened the door to a new phase of recovery and rebuilding confidence in the Lebanese product.
