Dutch coach Arne Slot sent an emotional message to the fans of the English club Liverpool after the Reds’ management decided to terminate the contractual relationship with him following the team’s decline in performance this season.
He said: “You walk out of that famous corridor at Anfield and you feel a mixture of feelings, responsibility towards the great history of this club.”
Slott added: “For all these feelings to turn into a Premier League title after only 12 months was something exceptional. It was not just a championship, but a reward for the hard work, sacrifice and commitment shown by many people within the club.”
Slott spoke about the tragedy of losing Portuguese Diogo Gota in a traffic accident, and said: “Losing Diogo after a few weeks of celebrating together is something that cannot be described. Most of all, I want to remember a colleague, friend, and a wonderful human being who touched the lives of thousands of you every time he wore the shirt of this ancient club.”
Slott emphasized that the bond that unites him with the fans “goes beyond football and goes beyond European nights under the lights of Anfield Stadium or under the echo of the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” that echoes in the stands of the Kop.”
Slot thanked the players, the technical staff and the individuals working behind the scenes, and he also thanked the club’s management and owners for their trust and guidance, adding: “It has been an honor to work with all of you.”
Slott continued: “But I leave knowing that the club is where it should be, among Europe’s elite. This is an important responsibility, and Liverpool will continue to compete at the highest level next season and beyond.”
He continued: “I leave with complete confidence in what awaits this club. The players who gave a lot, preserved the club’s values, and created unforgettable moments laid foundations that will last forever,” stressing that change is part of football, and that this club will continue to make its fans proud.
He added: “When I stood for the first time under that slogan in the Anfield tunnel, I knew what this club required, and I leave knowing that we have never stopped striving to achieve it.” (Sky News Arabia)
