Call of the homeland
A political source accompanying the Pentagon military meetings indicated to “Nidaa al-Watan” that “the agenda of the Lebanese military delegation was based on two points: a final ceasefire and withdrawal behind the international borders, with an openness to discussing details within these two constants.” The source added, “The Israeli military delegation also insisted on two points: completely dismantling Hezbollah’s weapons and preventing its arming again, and establishing a joint Israeli-Lebanese coordination room.” He explained, “There is an American insistence that the military meetings produce positive results, and that the success of the military talks will be reflected in the political talks on June 2 and 3, which was confirmed during the phone call between the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.”
In this context, an official source pointed out that Aoun provided, during the call, a detailed explanation of the developments of the Israeli military operation in the south, its expansion, and the destruction and displacement it caused, stressing that the success of any negotiating path remains difficult in the absence of a clear ceasefire. According to the data, Rubio informed Aoun that he would discuss these points and convey them to US President Donald Trump, at a time when the Lebanese state looks with increasing concern at the Israeli operation, which, in its view, is approaching an undeclared invasion, which raises the level of fears and complicates the negotiation conditions for Lebanon.
