Ahmed Hossam Mido, the former star of Zamalek and the Egyptian national team, defended Mohamed Salah after the player’s recent statements about “sacrificing his youth.”

After he left Liverpool, following a journey that lasted 9 years during which he won titles such as the English Premier League and the European Champions League, and the title of the team’s top scorer and the Premier League, Salah spoke of his “suffering” in the recent period.

Salah said in his interview with one of the companies sponsoring him, that people do not see the difficulty of the path, and the amount of sacrifices he makes, in order to appear at this level.

Following these statements, sarcastic comments poured in, and others attacked Salah for talking about “sacrificing his youth” despite the moral and material gains he reaped as a result of his professional journey.

Mido wrote in defense of Salah in a message he posted on the “X” platform: “The greatest sacrifice is that you have the financial and physical ability and fame, and all the people wish to stay around you, and you choose to lock yourself in, go to sleep early, and eat healthy food, and all your friends are going to the coast to have fun while you go to a summer preparation camp with your team.”

He added: “This is in addition to the great nervous and psychological pressure that is placed on you from the public and the media because you are the star of the team, and demands that you earn it every week. Otherwise, no one will call you names. This is what Mohamed Salah meant by sacrificing his youth.”

He continued: “Life is choices and decisions, and Salah decided that he lived for football, and God honored him with the last generosity because he was tired and sacrificed, and he was a man who was righteous to his family and generous to all the people around him. We all must learn from Salah. All the youth of Egypt must put Salah before them, that there is no such thing as impossible.”
