During the Google I/O 2026 conference, Google revealed its plans to launch a new generation of smart glasses supported by the Gemini artificial intelligence model, in a move aimed at integrating digital assistants more into users’ daily lives.
The company explained that the new glasses will fall within the category of “smart optical devices,” and were developed in cooperation with Samsung, with the aim of combining advanced technologies with a design that can be worn all day long.
According to Google, the project will begin by launching two main versions: The first relies on voice interaction only without a screen, and allows the user to execute commands, ask questions, and obtain immediate information via the “Gemini” assistant.
The second version, expected to be launched later, will come with a display screen that allows information to be shown directly in front of the user, enhancing the augmented reality experience.
The company confirmed that the glasses will rely on deep integration with the Gemini system, allowing the user to analyze what the user sees through the built-in cameras and provide real-time information about surrounding places and objects, in addition to performing tasks such as sending messages, managing alerts, providing directions, and translating texts instantly.
Google believes that the most prominent strengths of the project are the integration with its various services, such as maps, messages, and calendar, which gives the glasses a greater ability to carry out tasks smoothly and without the need to use the phone directly.
She also indicated that the new devices will support working with Android and iOS phones, while providing a more integrated experience for Android users, as part of the company’s vision for the future of computing and wearable devices.
