Culture Minister Ghassan Salama warned of the dangers facing a number of Lebanese archaeological sites as a result of the Israeli raids on the south, stressing that some of the most prominent historical monuments were in “serious danger.”

Salama said, in a statement to Agence France-Presse, that shells fell near the ruins of the city of Tire, which is included on the World Heritage List, noting that Beaufort Castle in Arnoun was subjected to direct bombardment.

He stressed that a number of important archaeological sites in Lebanon are threatened by the ongoing military escalation, calling for their protection from the dangers they face.

In a separate context, US Vice President J.D. Vance announced that the United States and Iran had made “significant progress” towards reaching an agreement, but he indicated that US President Donald Trump was not yet ready to agree to it.
