The joint committees to follow up on the operation of Martyr President Rene Moawad Airport in Klayaat discussed, during their meeting, the latest procedural steps related to resolving the airport’s bidding, describing it as a rescue step that has been long awaited for years and represents an urgent sovereign and development demand for Akkar and the north.

The committees confirmed in a statement that this development was the result of a process that spanned fifteen years of continuous pressure and tireless movements by actors and activists to restart this vital facility.

Although they welcomed the step as an entry point to break the deadlock, the committees expressed their aspiration for a major international bid that would lead to the establishment of an integrated international airport, instead of limiting it to local companies to build a small passenger terminal, recalling the economic feasibility of the airport and its ability to move the wheel of the economy and provide thousands of job opportunities. The committees concluded by thanking all those who contributed to keeping the file alive, stressing the continuation of their media and municipal struggle until the airport becomes vibrant with traffic and travelers.
