Consumer prices recorded an annual increase of 2.8% in April, compared to an increase of 2.7% last March. Moreover, this was the highest inflation rate since December 2025, and this is consistent with preliminary data published on April 30.
Transport-based inflation accelerated to 6.9% from 5.2%, amid a 24.3% increase in fuel and lubricating oil costs, according to the German news agency DPA.
On the other hand, annual prices in food, beverages and tobacco grew to 1.4% from 2%, and annual prices in housing and utilities fell to 3.3% from 3.5%.
Final data issued by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) on Wednesday showed that inflation in the euro zone accelerated last April, driven by an increase in energy prices.
The Coordinated Consumer Price Index recorded an annual increase of 3% last April, up from 2.6% last March.
