The Israeli newspaper “Israel Hayom” revealed on Monday that the United States had given Israel a “green light” to continue its military operations in Lebanon under the cover of what it described as an “active ceasefire.”

The newspaper said that the current “ceasefire” policy practically gives Israel “complete freedom of movement” on the Lebanese front, considering that the only parties that continue to promote the idea of a truce are the White House and the Lebanese government.

“Israel Hayom” quoted senior Israeli officials as saying that the recent American announcement regarding extending the ceasefire practically only means giving Tel Aviv an additional 45 days to continue its military operations inside Lebanon.

This comes after the US State Department announced that it would host Lebanese-Israeli talks on May 14 and 15, which resulted in an agreement to extend the “cessation of hostilities” that began on April 16, for an additional 45 days, with the aim of making way for field and political progress.

Despite the implementation of the ceasefire and negotiations sponsored by Washington, Israeli raids continue on southern Lebanon, the western Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut, which during the past weeks led to hundreds of martyrs and wounded, including women and children, in addition to targeting homes and civilian facilities.
