The US Embassy in Lebanon stated, in a statement published on the “X” platform, that Lebanon stands at a “crossroads,” with what it described as a historic opportunity for its people to restore their country and shape their future as a truly sovereign and independent state.
She considered that direct engagement between Lebanon and Israel could constitute the beginning of a “national renaissance,” despite the fact that they are two neighboring countries that were at war.
She pointed out that the prolonged extension of the cessation of hostilities, which was achieved at the request of Donald Trump, provided Lebanon with an opportunity to present its demands, in light of the interest of the American government.
She added that holding a direct meeting between President Michel Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sponsored by Trump, may give Lebanon an opportunity to obtain guarantees related to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and border security, in addition to humanitarian support and reconstruction.
The embassy stressed that this stage represents “Lebanon’s moment” to make its own decision, indicating the United States’ readiness to stand by its side at this stage, and stressing that “the time for hesitation has ended.”
