An emergency meeting in Badbhoun denounces the government’s neglect of the village’s tragedy
An emergency meeting was held in the village of Badbhoun in the presence of the village mayor, Salim Al-Ayoubi, and a number of active figures. The attendees issued a statement in which they expressed their strong denunciation. The statement said: “How is it that on a day of national mourning in which hundreds of victims fell and thousands of wounded, flags were lowered and institutions were closed, the Council of Ministers ignores the pain of the Lebanese people, the brokenness of their hearts, and the destruction of their homes, and devotes itself to granting permissions to the bulldozers of soil companies to tear up what remains of the mountains of Badbhoun.” And its underground wealth.”
The statement angrily asked: “How can the Council of Ministers allow the continued bulldozing and the crushing of mountains in a village whose rocks were blown up, its antiquities were plundered, its heritage was destroyed, its underground resources were plundered, and an average of 80% of its total area was taken away from its mountains and valleys? And how can the Council of Ministers direct its decision to the municipalities and ignore the heartbreaking village of Badbhoun, which does not have a municipality? How is it possible for the Minister of Environment to hold her famous meeting yesterday without calling? A representative of the village of Badbhoun, and you do not give any importance to this village, which is dying as a result of the environmental crimes that were carried out in it, and without informing its mayor or any of its activities of the aforementioned meeting?”
The statement concluded by saying: “Badhoun is a village deprived of water for a hundred years, and its people buy water from tankers, and in its small circle there are dozens of resorts that steal water with soil companies from the Jarada Spring, which is a stone’s throw from it. Badbhoun has no sewage network, not even a dispensary, and no public services. Badbhoun has no municipality or security forces. Badbhoun will hold you accountable before national and international authorities.”
