It seems clear that the Iranian ambassador’s crisis is currently “on hold,” and that it has been contained through the Baabda Palace-Ain al-Tineh channel. This is after the dispute was withdrawn from the Council of Ministers and the political controversy over the Foreign Ministry’s decision to withdraw the credentials of the Iranian Ambassador, Mohammad Reza Shibani, continues, despite the continued deep and public disagreement between the political forces over Iran’s influence and role in Lebanon.
According to an informed source in the Progressive Socialist Party, Iranian interference is a topic of discussion among all political and partisan parties, since Hezbollah announced the launch of missiles from southern Lebanon towards Israel, with the aim of retaliating for the assassination of the Iranian leader by the United States of America.
The socialist source explains in response to a question that the issue is being addressed, after the Council of Ministers overcame the boycott of the Shiite duo’s ministers in yesterday’s session.
In the same context, the source reveals that a formal and not substantive comment was recorded on the Foreign Ministry’s step. He believes that it would have been better, given the sensitivity of the issue, which calls for a broad national discussion about Iran’s diplomatic performance in Lebanon, for the decision to be issued by the Council of Ministers, due to the repercussions it caused at a delicate and risky moment at the level of internal stability.
The source does not dispute the reasons that prompted the Foreign Ministry to take this decision, which were based on Iranian interference in Lebanese affairs, but points out that, as expected, the team opposing this move considered that these reasons also apply to other ambassadors in Beirut.
Accordingly, the source believes that the page on the crisis has been turned in the government, warning that the political discrepancy turns any controversial issue into a charging station for the internal atmosphere at a time when Lebanon is going through unprecedented dangers.
