The “Strong Lebanon” bloc met under the leadership of MP Gebran Bassil, and the meeting discussed the current situation in the country, especially developments related to the regional conflict and their effects on Lebanon. The meeting issued a statement that included a set of political visions and internal affairs.
With the beginning of the second month of the war in the region and its impact on Lebanon, the bloc confirmed its deep concern about the possibility of the conflict expanding and extending for a longer period, as this poses threats to Lebanon’s existence and stability. He expressed his astonishment at the way the government is dealing with the issue of stopping the Israeli aggression and facing its consequences, considering that the government’s performance indicates being satisfied with the least possible amount of external communications and internal measures.
The bloc called on the government to be frank with the Lebanese people about the measures it is taking to stop the aggression and prevent internal strife, and to work to care for citizens displaced from their villages, towns and cities as a result of the aggression, and to provide their basic needs, in addition to taking the necessary economic and security measures in various regions, and supporting the steadfastness of citizens who chose to remain on their lands in the border villages.
On a related issue, the bloc believed that the initiative launched by the Free Patriotic Movement under the slogan “Protecting Lebanon” represents a strong national basis that can be relied upon to confront the repercussions of the war, most importantly preventing any internal strife that some seek to ignite.
These statements come in light of the continuing military escalation on the southern front, and increasing fears of the expansion of the scope of the confrontation and its political, economic and social effects on the internal Lebanese situation, amid increasing living pressures and a continuing displacement movement from the border areas.
