Dr. Amer Al-Bassat, Minister of Economy and Trade, held a regular meeting of the National Council for Price Policy at the Ministry’s headquarters, to discuss the latest developments related to prices in Lebanese markets in light of the current situation.
The meeting focused on presenting a direct follow-up mechanism developed by the Ministry to monitor price movements in real time. Field data related to the most affected sectors and products were also examined, and the internal and external reasons leading to price increases were analysed, including the import and export situation and the profits of various distributors.
Prices of vegetables, meat and other basic foodstuffs took up much of the discussion, as well as the state of local industries in light of the sharp rise in fuel prices. Following up on these developments will contribute to directing the efforts of monitoring teams and intensifying inspection campaigns in the markets.
It should be noted that the Council met last week for the first time since 2022, as part of Minister Al-Bassat’s efforts to revitalize his work. Council meetings are scheduled to remain in session continuously due to the current circumstances.
