The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued a strong warning to Iran, warning it of the consequences of continuing its attacks on Arab countries, and stressed that Tehran will be the “biggest loser” if it insists on destabilizing the region, in light of the escalation in military tension resulting from the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
This Saudi warning came after the vital Shaybah oil field was targeted by a drone, an incident that clearly shows the expansion of the scope of the conflict in the region.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in a statement that the statements made by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding stopping attacks on the Gulf states did not resonate on the ground.
The statement stated: “The Kingdom confirms that the Iranian side did not implement this statement in practice, neither during the Iranian President’s speech nor after it.”
Riyadh accused Tehran of continuing to launch attacks “based on flimsy pretexts that are not based on any realistic basis,” and saw that these actions represented a dangerous escalation that would greatly affect relations now and in the future.
This escalation coincides with the outbreak of a large-scale war in the region for more than a week, between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other, which led to the spread of missiles and drones in several countries in the Middle East.
In a separate context, the Leadership Council of Experts in Iran announced the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late leader Ali Khamenei, to be the new supreme guide of the Islamic Republic.
Mojtaba Khamenei is 56 years old, and is considered one of the most influential figures within the Iranian regime, as he enjoys strong relations with the leadership of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which leads military operations against Israel and other countries in the region.
