A technical report revealed the possibility of an unexpected change in the color of one of the new colors of the “iPhone 17 Pro” phone, as the “Cosmic Orange” color may turn into a shade close to pink when exposed to some household cleaners.

According to what was published by the “CNET” website, chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, which is found in many household cleaners and disinfectants, may interact with the outer layer of the phone, leading to the color of the metal frame changing from orange to a color tending to pink.

The change is limited to the metal frame
The report explained that this color shift is limited only to the metal part of the back of the phone, while the glass part is not affected.

This result appeared after conducting an experiment in which the testers deliberately exposed the phone to some household chemicals to see their effect on the color. They noticed that the change does not occur immediately, but appears gradually over time.

The reason is in the way the metal is processed
The reason for this is due to the way Apple manufactures the phone’s frame, where the orange color is used in an oxidized metal layer, in which the dye is inserted into tiny pores in the metal and then closed with a protective layer.

But if this protective layer is damaged by chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, the pigment may change or fade, resulting in a color shift.

No effect on phone performance
Despite this change in appearance, the report confirms that it is only a matter of aesthetic appearance and does not affect the phone’s performance or functionality.

Apple also clearly indicates on its support page that you should avoid using products that contain bleach or hydrogen peroxide when cleaning iPhones.

So, if you own an “iPhone 17 Pro” phone in “Cosmic Orange,” it may be best to avoid these materials to preserve its original appearance, especially with the price of the device exceeding a thousand dollars.
