She learned from her own sources that the Lebanese Parliament will witness a general legislative session next Monday. The session aims to discuss and approve a draft law submitted by a number of members of Parliament, proposing to extend the mandate of the current Council for an additional two years, due to the difficult security conditions that Lebanon is going through as a result of the Israeli aggression.

The sources explained that the proposal received the support of ten representatives, including: Nima Afram, Muhammad Salman, Bilal Al-Hashimi, Ali Hassan Khalil, Michel Daher, Camille Chamoun, Marwan Hamadeh, Firas Abi Hamdan, Simon Abi Ramia, and others.

The proposal calls for a full two-year extension of the Council’s mandate, and not just a short-term technical extension. This procedure is common in exceptional cases, and Lebanese parliamentary history has witnessed similar cases. Although there are opinions that see the possibility of returning to elections once the military operations stop, the sources stress that this scenario is unlikely, and it was not implemented in previous times in which the Council’s mandate was extended.

In a related context, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri sent an invitation to a meeting of the bureau tomorrow, Friday, at the Ain al-Tineh headquarters, to discuss the session’s agenda and announce its official date.
