Fars Agency, citing a reliable source, reported on Tuesday that the final touches are currently being made to choose the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, and the result is expected to be officially announced within a few hours or days.

According to what the sources said, the constitutional mechanism is working fully efficiently, within the framework approved by the Leadership Council of Experts, which is the body that the Constitution grants the authority to choose the Supreme Leader.

It also showed that the leader of the revolution and the martyr’s supreme leader, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, did not appoint a person to succeed him, leaving the matter to leadership experts, focusing on basic criteria, including confronting arrogance, courage, honesty, justice, understanding reality, and the ability to lead.

The sources confirmed that very strict security measures had been taken to hold the meeting of the Council of Experts, in light of the delicate conditions the country is witnessing.

She also pointed out the possibility of postponing the final meeting of the Council of Experts with his actual presence until after the completion of the burial ceremony next week, which means that the decision may be announced either before the ceremony or shortly after it.

This development comes at a crucial time for Iran, after the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, and in the midst of an unprecedented military escalation with Israel and the United States, and increasing regional tensions.

The position of Supreme Leader in Iran is considered the highest authority in the political system, as it oversees public policies, the armed forces, and sovereign institutions, which makes the process of choosing a successor an event of great importance at the internal and regional levels.

Pending the official announcement, attention is turning to the Assembly of Experts and the effects its decision will have on the balance of power within Iran, and on the course of the ongoing confrontation in the region.
