In the midst of the successive events taking place in Iran today, and with the expansion of military operations to reach the capital, Tehran, an old statement by the head of the Arab Tawhid Party, Wiam Wahhab, has emerged again. Wahhab had stated on October 1, 2024, during a television interview on the “Point of View” program on the “Spot Shot” channel, warning that the battle might move inside Iran if protection was not provided for Lebanon.
Wahhab specifically said at the time: “If the Iranians do not carry out the battle in Lebanon, it will take place in the streets of Tehran… If Lebanon is not protected, the battle will take place in Tehran, in the streets of Tehran.”
He also added that he is recording this position “for history,” stressing that “no matter how much the Iranian flees from the battle, the battle will come to him.”
In the context of his interview, Wahhab linked the course of the conflict in Lebanon to its course at the regional level, citing a previous experience in 2005 when he predicted that the battle “will reach the streets of Sheikh Dahi,” meaning inside Syria, stressing that the warning loses its value if it is not listened to at the appropriate time.
It is noteworthy that his statement coincided with the escalation of tension on the Lebanese-Israeli front at that time, and increasing fears of the expansion of the scope of the confrontation to include other regional parties.
Today, in light of the scenes of air strikes targeting facilities and complexes in Tehran, and the increasing pace of military operations inside Iranian territory, Wahhab’s political analysis becomes worthy of contemplation and consideration, especially in light of the unprecedented developments we are witnessing.
In this context, Wahhab’s statement, which was issued previously, remains the subject of controversy and discussion in political and media circles, in light of a very delicate and sensitive regional stage, which is witnessing the reshaping of the balance of power in the region.
