The media office of His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Al-Bassat, issued the following statement:
“In an exceptional manner, and in view of the current circumstances and in order to reassure citizens, fuel importers responded to the ministry’s request, and today, Sunday, they delivered to gas stations a sufficient stock of gasoline and diesel.”
On Sunday morning, Minister Al-Bassat inspected a number of gas stations, with the aim of ensuring that work was progressing normally. In the afternoon, he followed up on the process of fuel delivery by distributors, in coordination with the Minister of Energy, Joe Seddi, provided that this delivery would be exceptional for today only, and then things would return to normal tomorrow.
Minister Al-Bassat had explained during the press conference held yesterday at the ministry’s headquarters, following an emergency meeting that included unions and federations concerned with food, flour, and fuel files, that fuel importers would respond to the ministry’s request to provide the required quantities exceptionally until Sunday if necessary, which is what actually happened.
The Minister reiterates that gasoline and diesel are available in the markets, and stresses the continuation of work to ensure the stability of the supply process and keep the situation under control, despite the current conditions in the region.
He also confirms that priority agencies, such as hospitals, bakeries, communications networks, and the Electricité du Liban, will be provided with fuel on a regular and immediate basis, in order to ensure the continued provision of basic services.
