The inspection campaigns resulted in the discovery of three major merchants who committed serious violations, including withholding quantities of goods and unjustifiably raising prices, which is a clear violation of the applicable laws and regulations.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the necessary arrest reports were immediately organized against the violators, and they will be referred to the competent judicial authorities to take appropriate legal measures.
Al-Bassat stressed that “the Ministry will not tolerate any attempt to monopolize, manipulate prices, or exploit citizens, and that protecting purchasing power remains an absolute priority at this delicate stage.”
The Ministry stressed that it “will complete its oversight rounds on a daily basis in various vital, food and consumer sectors in all Lebanese regions, to ensure the orderliness of markets and prevent any violations, under penalty of taking the most severe legal measures against violators.”
The Ministry called on “all citizens to report any violation or complaint related to prices or monopoly through the Ministry of Economy and Trade’s application on smart phones, which allows complaints to be followed up quickly and transparently.”
