The Free Patriotic Movement issued a statement announcing that the “Strong Lebanon” bloc had submitted an official request to the House of Representatives to hold a public session dedicated to discussing the government’s performance and general policy. This request was based on Article 137 of the Council’s internal regulations, and based on the oversight role that the Constitution grants to the Representative Council.
The statement stated that the aim of this request is to examine the extent of the government’s commitment to implementing applicable laws and adhering to the dates and procedures specified in the legal texts, especially after asking a number of parliamentary questions, most of which were not answered, while the bloc saw that some of the answers they received were insufficient and did not provide a complete explanation of the content of the questions asked.
The movement stressed that the regular functioning of institutions is not just a political choice, but rather a constitutional duty. He stressed that accountability represents the “cornerstone” of building a state of law and institutions. The statement added that any failure to respect constitutional entitlements would threaten the stability of public life and reduce citizens’ confidence in the state.
The statement considered that holding a public session to discuss the government is a necessary step for public and transparent accountability, and to clarify the reasons for delay or neglect in many files, most notably the “parliamentary elections file,” with the aim of reaching a clear “road map” that guarantees the full implementation of the laws and respect for constitutional entitlements.
