The Cabinet session is still being held in the Republican Palace, and its agenda includes thirty items, the first of which is the Army Command’s review of the monthly report on the plan to inventory the weapons deployed in various Lebanese regions.

As for the second item, it relates to amending the salaries and wages of workers in the public sector, in addition to the third item, which deals with the Ministry of Finance’s request to approve a draft decree aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to currently serving military personnel, as well as to retirees who receive a retirement pension.

Army Commander, General Rudolf Heikal, presented the army’s plan related to confining weapons to the area north of the Litani River. The presentation of the plan went smoothly within the Council of Ministers, with the exception of some questions raised by a number of ministers about the time period required to implement this plan.

After completing the presentation of the plan, the Council of Ministers moved to discuss the items related to amending public sector salaries and wages, and the discussion is still ongoing on the issue of increasing the salaries of public sector employees, including military personnel in the army and security forces.

In this context, the Minister of Displaced Persons and Minister of State for Technology Affairs, Kamal Shehadeh, stated after leaving the session due to previous foreign engagements, and explained that the second phase of the army’s plan has begun, and that there is a discussion about a deadline ranging between four and eight months, but no final time frame has been determined yet.

He pointed out that “implementation is linked to the army’s capabilities and its ability to complete its plan north of the Litani.”
