In a step aimed at improving the user experience and increasing the ability to customize, technical reports indicated that Microsoft intends to reactivate the taskbar feature in the Windows 11 operating system, a feature that users have missed since the launch of the system in 2021.

According to what was reported by the “Erm News” website and other technical sources, Microsoft is currently working on testing the possibility of moving the taskbar to the top of the screen or to the right and left sides, as was available in older versions such as “Windows 10.” This feature is expected to be officially launched as part of future updates to the system in the summer of 2026, after it gradually appears in trial versions for subscribers to the “Windows Insider” program.

The most important features of the new taskbar update:

-Move location: The ability to move the bar from the bottom of the screen to the top or sides.
-Resize: The ability to resize the taskbar to enlarge or reduce the icons as the user desires.
-Improved customization: Providing broader options for organizing the workspace, in response to complaints from users who saw pinning the bar at the bottom as a restriction on freedom of customization.

This trend comes after years of user demands and constant pressure on social media, with Microsoft retracting its previous decision, which it justified by the conflict of moving the bar with new user interface elements such as the “Start” menu, widgets, and the notification center.
