Google has officially announced the launch of the YouTube application designed specifically for the Apple Vision Pro glasses, after two years of waiting since the initial unveiling of the glasses. This launch puts an end to the use of unofficial browsers or solutions that lacked many of the advanced technical features provided by the glasses.
The launch of the Native App is considered a major turning point for VisionOS users. While using “Safari” limited video quality and consumed the battery quickly, the developers confirm that the new application will provide a true “spatial computing” experience.
One of the most prominent features offered by the application is full support for 360-degree content and 180 VR videos, in addition to 3D content, allowing users to immerse themselves in the scene instead of just watching it on a flat virtual screen.
In a notable technical step, Google stated that the application supports playing videos at a resolution of up to “8K”. However, this feature is only available to users of the latest version of the glasses equipped with the “Apple M5” processor, while users of the first version with the “M2” processor are limited to “4K” resolution.
This trend reflects Google’s endeavor to make the most of the capabilities of the software hardware provided by Apple, in order to ensure smooth playback of high-quality content without problems with heat or frame clipping.
Cinematic experience and intelligent control
The application provides an innovative user interface that relies entirely on natural gestures and eye movement, which makes the process of navigating between videos or selecting playlists very easy.
The application also provides the “virtual environments” feature, where the user can turn his room into a completely dark cinema or watch the video while sitting on the top of a virtual mountain, which enhances the concept of “personal cinema” that Apple promised.
In addition, Google did not neglect the basic features, as the application gives the user full access to his subscriptions, viewing history, and “Shorts” videos.
As for YouTube Premium subscribers, the company has added the download feature for offline viewing, which is an important feature for glasses users during flights or travel.
Observers say that this step completes the entertainment circle on “Vision Pro,” as YouTube represents the largest video library in the world. It is no longer just an “additional application”, but rather an official recognition by Google of the potential of mixed reality as a future platform that cannot be ignored. (Al Jazeera Net)
