In the town of Barqayel, an incident was recorded when parts of the roof of an old, cracked house fell, raising concern among local residents for fear of the worsening situation and the risk of its collapse on the residents of the house and neighboring homes. Fears of sudden collapse incidents are increasing.

Immediately, the mayor of Barqayel, lawyer Abdel Rahman Al-Hassan, assigned a member of the municipal council, engineer Mohamed Obaid, to investigate the matter on the ground. According to the initial technical report, it was found that the building suffers from serious cracks due to its age and the deterioration of its structural condition, making it unfit for habitation.

Al-Hassan explained that he informed the Governor of Akkar, Lawyer Imad Al-Labaki, of the details of the incident, and an official letter will be sent to the Akkar Governorate explaining the situation of the house and its level of danger, in preparation for taking appropriate measures according to the rules.

The mayor called on residents to evacuate the house temporarily, in order to preserve their safety and the safety of those around them, until the required administrative and technical procedures are completed.

It is noteworthy that this accident comes in light of the increase in accidents related to old and dilapidated homes in many areas of Akkar and the north, due to a lack of maintenance work and high restoration costs. This brings to the forefront the issue of collapsing buildings as a humanitarian and development priority, requiring immediate coordination between the municipalities, the governorate, and the concerned authorities to avoid injuries or loss of life.
