The Ministry of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence, represented by Minister Dr. Kamal Shehadeh, signed a memorandum of understanding with Beirut Arab University, represented by its President, Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, in the presence of the Director General of the Ministry of Displaced Persons, Mr. Ahmed Mahmoud, in addition to the work teams of the Ministry and the University.

This memorandum aims to support cooperation between the two parties in the fields of technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, with the aim of keeping pace with modern developments, supporting innovation, scientific research and developing national capabilities. It also aims to launch joint training and research initiatives and programs that serve the public and private sectors.

During the signing ceremony, attendees discussed the disaster of destroyed buildings in Tripoli. Shehadeh pointed out the seriousness of the situation, stressing that “the number of threatened buildings is approximately 1,200, which requires quick and coordinated action among the various concerned parties.”

Shehadeh asked the university administration to “put its academic and engineering expertise at the disposal of the municipality and the competent authorities, to contribute to the field inspection and technical studies necessary to assess the conditions of threatened buildings, and to propose appropriate solutions to address and reduce risks in order to preserve public safety.”

For his part, Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam affirmed the university’s full readiness to cooperate, stressing its commitment to its “national and societal role,” placing its “scientific and research capabilities in the service of this urgent issue, in coordination with the municipality of Tripoli and the relevant official authorities.”
