Microsoft announced the introduction of a package of radical improvements to the Windows 11 operating system, which contributed to increasing its response speed by up to 20%, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of consumption of random memory and computer resources, ensuring a smoother user experience, especially on devices equipped with 8 GB of random access memory (RAM).
These updates come as an extension of a comprehensive plan launched by the company in early 2026, which aims to improve the system’s performance and improve the user experience, as a continuation of the series of reforms and updates that it implemented during the past months.
In this context, Navjot Virk, Microsoft’s Vice President of the Windows Experience Sector, explained that the company has developed mechanisms for managing memory and the use of system resources; This allows a greater amount of computer capabilities to be allocated to the actual tasks carried out by the user.
Virk pointed out that the new modifications enable the system to keep active data in random memory instead of transferring it to slower storage units, with the ability to hold additional data of up to 2 GB, which reflects positively and directly on the speed of overall performance.
Support for limited devices
Microsoft focused in particular on improving the performance of computers with limited capabilities and equipped with 8 GB of RAM or less, by reducing resource consumption and postponing the loading of system interface elements, some of which are not always used.
The most prominent of these modifications is changing the operating mechanism of the “Widgets” section, so that they are only downloaded the moment they are opened, thus saving more than 200 MB of RAM to direct it towards running applications and other tasks, which reduces the pressure on weak devices and enhances their ability to run programs and move between them smoothly.
Interface development and communication
The improvements were not limited to memory management only, but also included the “Start” menu, the file explorer, the search tool, and the “Edge” browser, in addition to improving the mechanisms for distributing resources between the various components of the system.
The updates included reducing the inconvenience associated with Windows updates, making improvements to widgets, in addition to responding to user requests by allowing the taskbar to be moved to the top or sides of the screen, after its position was limited to the bottom only.
Microsoft also improved the speed of login via the Windows Hello biometric recognition feature, and enhanced the reliability of connection to external Bluetooth devices, including AirPods.
A new search experience
On the other hand, Microsoft is preparing to expand the availability of a completely new search experience in Windows 11, which gives users greater speed and enhanced capabilities to find files and information inside computers.
This experience is currently available to participants in the “Windows Insider” beta program, and the company will begin gradually rolling it out to all users before the end of 2026.
