The Ministry of Economy issues 16 arrest reports against generator owners in the southern suburb and its surroundings for violating the official pricing.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade wrote 16 arrest reports against the owners of private electric generators in the southern suburb of Beirut and its environs, against the backdrop of committing legal violations related to official pricing, fixed fees, and the mechanism for issuing invoices and meters, during two oversight rounds carried out on Monday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 14.

Monday’s tour witnessed the issuance of 10 arrest reports in the areas of Al-Laylaki, Hay Al-Salam, Choueifat, Burj Al-Barajneh, and the American neighborhood. These reports monitored violations that included exceeding the official price, collecting illegal fixed fees, and refraining from delivering invoices or receipts to subscribers, as well as issuing invoices written in US dollars or not in detail. In a related context, the Ministry took an official pledge from the owner of a generator in the Madi neighborhood to adhere to the approved exchange rate.

In the second round, which was conducted on Wednesday with the support of the State Security Service, the patrols recorded 6 additional arrest reports, which included the areas of Al-Kafaat, Tahouitet Al-Ghadir, Al-Jamous, the Airport Road – Bir Hassan, and Al-Shiyah.

Control and inspection work showed that one of the owners of generators in the Al-Kafaat area was charging a price of 70 cents per kilowatt-hour, in addition to violations related to fixed fees, and issuing invoices in foreign currency, in addition to not completing the installation of meters in one of the generators in the Chiyah area. On the other hand, the supervisory teams recorded the commitment of a number of generator owners to the approved official decisions and pricing.

At the conclusion of its report, the Ministry of Economy stressed the continuation of its strict monitoring campaigns and taking all legal measures against violators, calling on citizens to report any violations via the “MoET Digital Services” mobile application or by calling the Consumer Association hotline at 01750650.
