Several field fronts in Yemen are witnessing a simultaneous military escalation, following the intensification of confrontations between government forces and the Houthi group in the governorates of Taiz, Lahj, and Ma’rib, in conjunction with Houthi missile attacks targeting government gatherings and resulting in deaths and injuries.
In Lahj Governorate, Yemeni sources reported, on Monday, that there were deaths and injuries among government forces as a result of Houthi missile attacks that targeted their gatherings in the coastal area of Ras Al-Ara.
In the same context, violent battles broke out in the Mudaraba District of Lahj Governorate between the Giants forces and the Subaiha tribes on the one hand, and the Houthis on the other hand. A military source said that the confrontations broke out following attempts by the Houthis to advance from the district with the aim of reaching the coast and cutting off supply lines leading to the Kahboub and Bab al-Mandab fronts. The source warned of the seriousness of the field situation, stressing the Front’s need for military reinforcements and air support to prevent the battles from spreading to the Ras Imran area, close to the temporary capital, Aden.
In Taiz Governorate, southwest of the country, government forces announced that they had thwarted a large-scale Houthi attack in the Al-Dhabab area, west of the city, after the attackers attempted to approach the entrance to the city. A military source explained to the German News Agency that the battles continued for several hours and resulted in deaths and injuries among the attackers, without specifying an accurate toll. The Dhabab area is of great strategic importance due to its proximity to the western entrance to the densely populated Taiz, and its location linking the governorate to the governorates of Lahj and Aden.
On the other side of the field developments, the Yemeni army announced in an official statement that its forces continued their operations against the Houthis within the theater of operations of the Seventh Military Region on the fronts north of Ma’rib Governorate, within the framework of Operation “Yemen’s Dawn.” The statement confirmed that government forces are engaged in direct and continuous battles with the Houthis, while targeting their combat capabilities with air strikes carried out by warplanes and drones, as well as shelling with artillery and rocket launchers.
These field developments come about a week after the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, announced the launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn,” which aims, according to his statements, to liberate the country from the Houthis and regain control of the capital, Sana’a.
