Tehran responds to London and refutes the accusations of the Fairford military base

Tehran categorically denied any role in the security incident that targeted the British Fairford Air Base, in the first official response to British accusations that suggested that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was behind the incident.

The official Iranian news agency “IRNA” stated that the Iranian ambassador to Britain, Seyed Ali Mousavi, rejected the accusations directed against his country of involvement in the incident, expressing Tehran’s full readiness to cooperate with the relevant British authorities in the investigation process.

The Iranian position came following statements by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, made on Monday before the House of Commons, in which he indicated a high probability that the suspected plot against the “Fairford” base was “most likely” coordinated and directed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Burnham stressed that his country will not tolerate any threats to its lands, announcing a package of additional measures that the government will take against Tehran.

In the same context, London took escalatory steps that included summoning the Iranian ambassador and imposing sanctions on two Iranian citizens. One for his alleged involvement in activities aimed at threatening, planning and carrying out attacks on Britain or other countries.

The threads of the case go back to a security incident that occurred near the “Fairford” base of the British Royal Air Force, which is used by American forces. The British anti-terrorism police had previously announced that no explosives were found inside the vehicles that were searched, stressing that their investigations were continuing to uncover the circumstances of the incident, while the Iranian embassy in London had been quick since late last September to deny any Tehran connection to the incident, rejecting what it described as speculation not based on evidence.
