Asian stocks rose today, ahead of the release of expected US inflation data, supported by growing expectations that the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) may avoid sharp increases in interest rates next year, in conjunction with the rise in crude oil prices.
In trading, the MSCI Asia-Pacific stock index rose 0.6%, leading a recovery that ends a two-day losing streak, which had dropped the index last Tuesday to its lowest closing level since last August.
This improvement in investor sentiment was driven by statements by New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams, who stressed that there is no need for further monetary tightening in 2027, while maintaining his expectations that raising interest rates again during the current year remains an appropriate option. In the same context, swap contracts are currently pricing in a probability of less than 25% that a new increase in interest rates will be approved during the month of October.
