Google announced its new fitness tracking device, “Fitbit Edge,” which combines a lightweight design, a color screen, and advanced features for monitoring health and exercise, with a battery life of up to seven days.
According to a report published by the “GSMArena” website, the device occupies a middle position between the “Pixel Watch 5” and the “Fitbit Air” device, which is devoid of a screen, providing users with advanced additional functions without the need to purchase a full smart watch.
Design and screen
The “Fitbit Edge” comes with a 1.34-inch “AMOLED” screen that supports the always-on display feature, and is placed within an aluminum frame with a thickness of about 11.5 mm. The device is distinguished by its light weight, which stands at only 17.7 grams (without the bracelet), in addition to providing it with a side button to control and navigate between functions.
Health and sports tracking
The device supports more than 50 sports modes, with automatic activity tracking, GPS, and direct guidance during exercises. It also contains a comprehensive sensor system to monitor heart rate, blood oxygen level, and skin temperature, as well as electrical sensors to support electrocardiogram (ECG).
In addition, the device allows you to track steps, monitor sleep and weather, display call and message notifications with the quick replies feature, control music, and use basic applications such as maps, alarm clocks and timers. Unlike the Pixel Watch, the device does not run on the Wear OS operating system, but rather uses a special interface that displays basic information in a simplified manner.
Battery and durability
The device contains a 65 mAh battery, which, according to Google, provides up to 7 days of use under normal conditions. It also supports the fast magnetic charging feature, as a 5-minute charge gives enough power for a full day of use. The device’s specifications are complete with water resistance up to a depth of 50 meters, in addition to obtaining an “IP68” rating for resistance to water and dust.
Price and availability
The “Fitbit Edge” is available for pre-order in select markets at a price starting at $179.99, while the price of the special edition designed in collaboration with basketball player Stephen Curry is $220, with official sales starting on October 27 of this year. The device is available in four colors, including black, silver, gold, and green, with bracelets compatible with each design.
