4 members of one family were killed as a result of devastating storms that struck Mexico

Five people were killed, including four members of one family, and five others were injured and missing, as a result of torrential rains, floods, and landslides caused by storms “Rachel” and “Simon” in several regions of Mexico, according to what the official authorities announced.

In the state of Baja California, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday the death of four members of one family, including two minors, as a result of floods caused by Tropical Storm “Rachel.” The bodies of the victims were found on the outskirts of the city of Ensenada, located in the northwest of the country. Although the storm has subsided, efforts to search for the missing continue, while security forces succeeded in rescuing 32 people trapped in the water with the help of helicopters.

In the south of the country, Hurricane “Simon” caused the death of a 71-year-old man in the state of Guerrero after a wall collapsed on him, according to what the state’s governor, Evelyn Salgado, reported on Monday. Expectations indicated the possibility of recording greater damage, but the speed of its winds decreased as it passed over the mountainous areas as it advanced slowly along the coast, in addition to changing its course after it was expected to hit the land directly during the weekend.

The latest bulletin issued by the US National Hurricane Center stated that the hurricane is expected to move away from the Mexican coast, with the possibility of heading towards land in the state of Sinaloa on Wednesday evening.

These field developments come at a time when experts have warned that the current hurricane season will be one of the most severe, affected by the “El Niño” climate phenomenon associated with rising temperatures in the Pacific Ocean’s waters.
