Coventry City ended a 25-year drought on scoring at home in the English Premier League, thanks to a goal scored by Jack Rodoni from a penalty kick during the match against Newcastle United on Monday evening, giving coach Frank Lampard’s team the initiative to advance.
According to the “Goal” website, Rodoni opened the scoring just six minutes after the start of the match, after a penalty kick was awarded to Coventry after player Sidki Sherif was obstructed inside the area by Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
Rodoni succeeded in executing the kick successfully, shooting the ball into the bottom corner, to score his team’s first goal at home in the First Division since April 2001, when John Hartson scored the team’s last goal against Sunderland.
The penalty kick was the culmination of Sharif’s efforts, who started for the first time in the Premier League, overcoming the physical obstacles he faced during the preparation period. Coach Frank Lampard praised the player’s commitment and development in training, stressing at the same time that he needed more time to fully adapt to the team’s atmosphere.
On the eve of the match, Lampard stressed the need to capitalize on the team’s recent victory away from home against Nottingham Forest, stressing the importance of maintaining positive momentum to support the team’s path and improve its results during the current season.
