The Egyptian airline “Air Cairo” announced the suspension of its flight scheduled to launch tomorrow, Sunday, the eleventh of October, to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in light of the current conditions and disturbances witnessed in air traffic.
An official source at the company explained, in statements to RT, that the suspension decision is currently limited to a flight on Sunday, indicating that the date for the resumption of flights will be determined based on developments in field conditions during the coming period.
This decision comes against the backdrop of emergency security repercussions that affected navigation traffic at Riyadh Airport, following reports that King Khalid International Airport was subjected to an attack today, Saturday, that resulted in the injury of a number of people and the evacuation of parts of the facilities, in addition to the disruption of air traffic.
The suspension of flights coincides with the escalation of security concerns related to the attacks launched by the Houthis during the past days that targeted the Kingdom’s lands using missiles and drones, affecting vital installations and civilian facilities.
These developments have led to growing concerns about airport security and civil aviation safety, amid expanding regional tensions and the operational challenges they pose for airlines to assess risks.
In a related context, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency expanded the scope of its warnings related to Saudi airspace, warning of the risks resulting from missile and drone activity and the possibility of affecting civil aviation safety.
At the conclusion of its statement, Air Cairo called on travelers who have reservations to Riyadh to follow up on the status of their flights through its official channels and communicate with customer service before heading to the airport, to find out about any developments related to travel dates or reservation procedures.
