A number of WhatsApp users resort to deleting and reinstalling the application as a quick solution to address the problems of slow phone and technical malfunctions, ignoring the potential risks that may lead to the final loss of conversations, photos, and video clips that are difficult to retrieve.
Deleting the application in itself does not result in inevitable data loss, as the restoration process is closely related to the presence of a recent backup copy, the type of account used, and the date of the last copy operation. Forgetting to verify the backup is one of the most common mistakes. Android users rely on the Google Drive service, while iPhone users rely on the iCloud service. If the backup copy is old, future messages that the user receives after completing that copy will be at risk of being lost.
Retrieving conversations is not limited to simply entering the phone number, but requires using the same number in addition to the cloud storage account linked to the backup. If the copy is encrypted, you may need to enter the password or encryption key.
Users may also face the problem of images and video clips disappearing, especially if they were excluded from the backup copy, or if the copying process fails to complete due to a weak Internet connection or lack of available storage space on the device.
To protect against these risks, the technical instructions advise entering the settings of the “WhatsApp” application, then going to the “Chats” section and choosing “Backup”, with the need to verify that a recent copy has been created and completed successfully, and to retain the encryption data, in addition to ensuring that sufficient storage space is available.
The greatest risk remains in deleting the application before fully ensuring that the data is ready to recover, which may end in a catastrophic loss of very important conversations and files.
